Angry much?

Over the last few days, I’ve noticed something and it’s bothered me… it’s being angry.

Generally, I don’t like being angry. There simply is no point in it. Getting angry is just a fruitless waste of time and energy and in many instances one is better served by just moving on.

This past week I was off. I liked being off even if I didn’t accomplish anything near what I would have liked to accomplish. I played pool one day, took myself to the movies another and went and bought food to a dear friend another day. I even ran some errands as well as getting some cooking done.

Yet, there were a couple of times where I found myself getting really angry.

One time was waiting to speak on a local sports radio program, making a point and then having the producer dump my call while the host pretended I had hung up and then spent time castigating me. It’s nice but I guess that’s what things are about these days and now I understand how mad Kristi Noem got after her Face the Nation experience.

If you haven’t heard, apparently Face the Nation did something of the same thing in editing her words to make it appear she said something entirely different than the point she was making. I can’t tell you how mad I got about that but again… let it go.

Then, I ordered some things online…

Now, what’s funny is that everyone is trying to compete with Amazon these days in the sense that they want to get your order to you as fast as Amazon gets things out even though they don’t have the infrastructure in place that Amazon has.

In this case, I had ordered some things from Amazon and for the most part… things arrived on time or within an acceptable window. They rarely botch delivery on things and if they do it’s like a day off. If there’s a bigger problem, I can get some kind of satisfaction.

I also placed orders with Walmart and Home Depot.

Now, Home Depot said they had the items in stock and even promised same day delivery for a good price ($3.99). They gave me a delivery window too. Then the day passed and lo and behold, no items. This kind of sucked because what I ordered was something I needed to do some of the things here around the house and without them, well, those things wouldn’t get done.

So, I went to the website but when you go to Home Depot’s website first you have to make it past the AI guardian of their chat feature (which a lot of websites do these days). This only increases my level of aggravation. I get through to someone, explain the issue and they say they will wave the delivery charge and my items will come to me the following day.

Great.

But they don’t.

And suddenly out of nowhere my order now is cancelled! So, I ordered something thinking it would come the same day and I wouldn’t have to drive around to track something down and now two days have gone by without me getting the item.

Another day goes by and I get a refund of the monies I paid for my order.

Except, they don’t refund me the full amount!?!?!?

So, now I go to the chat thing again and spend another half hour in a chat. After some back and forth over it and the person in the chat acknowledging something is wrong but since it’s outside of store hours they can’t do anything and it may require calling the store? Needless to say I am feeling my tension rise because I haven’t dealt with the store at all and why should I have to call them?

There is some back and forth but in the end I get a refund PLUS I get a gift card for the full amount of my order. Stressed but at least they did right by me so I can’t really complain even though I’m pissed about the overall experience.

Now, Walmart?

Well, my order comes on the day it’s supposed to. It’s marked as delivered, there are pictures showing the box as delivered and I bring the box in (which seems a bit heavy and makes noise which doesn’t seem right) and when I open it, instead of the sandles I ordered there are four boxes of dried pasta and a container of hot pepper. I look at the label and the item is actually supposed to be delivered to someone in Connecticut!!!

That led to a long futile chat session that was incredibly frustrating with Walmart and as I was writing this this evening I went back to chat and got a refund of my money.

The thing is these instances got me way more upset and angry than I should have been so something else is going on. Is it work? Is it going back to work that is the issue? I don’t know, all I know is that I need to figure it out because it’s not the way to live one’s life.
